Next Level Efficiency

The first wave of our Instant Savings Program was an incredible success! We knew Alberta was ready to become more energy-savvy, but your overwhelming participation has been a wonderful surprise.

If you are one of the thousands of Albertans who have taken steps toward energy efficiency, thank you! You are part of a growing movement of people who recognize that small changes make a big difference, and know that energy efficiency is all about living the same way—only smarter.

There are lots of ways to become a better energy consumer, and we are here to help. Your home is ground zero when it comes to energy efficiency, and improvements don’t have to cost a thing. Here are a few cost-free tips:

  • Beware of standby power. Some devices keep using electricity even when you’ve turned them off. For example, devices like computers, TVs, and chargers keep drawing power even when they’re not in use. According to Natural Resources Canada, standby power can be adding 5 to 10 percent more to your electricity bill.
  • Choose air dry. Whenever possible, give the dryer a pass and air dry your clean laundry. In many homes, clothes dryers are actually the highest power consumers, using more energy annually than a new fridge. While drying your clothes the old fashioned way may take some extra time, it’s worth its weight in savings.
  • Change the furnace filter regularly. A good rule of thumb is to change your filter every 3 months. If you have pets or suffer from allergies, changing the furnace filter more frequently is a good idea. In short, the cleaner the filter, the better. Clogged filters force your furnace to work harder, which makes for a lot more energy use and a higher utility bill.

There are lots of ways to reduce your energy consumption at no expense. Check out our Online Rebates and Home Improvement Rebate programs to take further steps toward energy efficiency.

Through Online Rebates, Alberta homeowners can purchase ENERGY STAR® fridges, clothes dryers, and smart thermostats at reduced costs. Do that, and you’ll be well on your way to great energy and cost savings at home.

The EEA Home Improvement Rebate Program will upgrade your energy efficiency game to pro status. The program offers new insulation, ENERGY STAR® windows, and tankless hot water heaters to you with savings on both the cost of the work and on your energy bills.
