Grande Prairie Goes Solar

“I have wanted to put up a system for 15 years, but the cost was just too much. The main driver was energy savings, but I also feel good I am doing my small part to reduce carbon emissions.”

With a large family and a workshop on his property, Thane Walton of Grande Prairie, had always wanted to install a solar system.  With technical support and over $7,600 in incentives from Energy Efficiency Alberta, he was able to install a 19.2 KW system to meet his energy needs.  He expects to save over $2,000 a year, with the system saving over 431 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the lifetime of the equipment.  In the first six months, he sold 9,000 kWh of electricity into the grid and only had to buy back 3,000 kWh.
